The next morning; a luxurious breakfast at the hotel, and this view through the window into the courtyard. A local woman is crafting & selling sweaters, scarves and souvenirs. She stops to feed milk from a bottle to the 3-month-old baby alpaca resting beside her. And yes -- he is as soft as the sweaters.

The first 6 days of this trip are an 'REI' tour package, and the small group meets our tourguide after breakfast for orientation and excursions to sites in the city. We learned that when Spanish conquistadors arrived in the 1500's, they built their homes, churches and other buildings on the foundations of Inca buildings -- so the bottom half of these buildings have a completely different look from the top.
